We inaugurated our club today :)

Inauguration of PhilOSS (Philomena’s Free and Open Source Software)

We did it today. Finally we inaugurated our foss community club and linux users group.

I have been struggling from so many days to make students of my college know about foss, GNU/Linux, free software, open source and the global community attached with it. One by one, face to face, talk by talk “I'” became “We” when I got support from my fellow classmates to form a community in our college.

We got a huge confidence after meeting people of fsmk (free software movement karnataka) at National conference on FOSS at Bangalore. I am personally very thankful to Mr. Naveen Mudunuru for his wonderful support and motivation. After being assured of proper support from fsmk we took this matter to the department of computer science of our college and we also had a talk to our principal about this.

They were happy with our proposal and were ready to help us with any sort of help we need. Yipee, we said, there we go!!

We planned one day workshop (thanks again to Mr. Naveen Mudunuru for the plan).

Inauguration and workshop:

Mr. Arun form L&T, our chief guest, who inaugurated our club and spoke about concepts behind Open Source

Vignesh from OnMobile and fsmk gave a wonderful technical sessions on moving to GNU/Linux introducing the basics applications in Linux

Ramya Pushpa and Khadija Mubeena, final year students of our college, presented beautiful seminar on “Open Sources Awards”

Then Mr. K.Sibi form fsmk presented interactively on philosophy behind open source and Linux technologies

we had a lunck break

After lunch Mr. Karthik took students into how to’s with lex and yacc. An awesome presentation which was highly appreciated.

We wrapped up with taking comments from students on what they expect from PhilOSS and promising them that we would be fulfilling their expectations and come up with better workshops and conferences.

Inauguration of PhilOSS

April 17 2010

PhilOSS is going to be inaugurated on Saturday 17th april 2010. Along with the inauguration seminars and presentations on various topics on FOSS and GNU Linux is going to be conducted. The event is open to all and anybody interested can join this inaugural function. We are thankful to the fsmk (free software movement karnataka) folks for being there to help us with the inauguration of our club and forming a LUG in our college.

The various sessions to be conducted by fsmk people are:

Technical Presentation. (Vignesh Prabhu)

An Amazing Philosophy behind such Technologies. (Sibi)

Different GNU/Linux Distros (Karthik)

lex & yacc (Karthik)

Vignesh works with OnMobile.

Sibi works as developer with Robert Bosch.

Karthik Works with Tech Mahindra, He is senior programmer and team lead there.

all of them are assosiciated with FOSS for over some time now and are a part of fsmk (free software movement karnataka)
